I first discovered Acres a little while ago when they were announced as main support for the upcoming Hellions tour in the UK later on this month. As I am already attending the Plymouth date of this tour I thought it was only fair I check out Acres so that I don't fall into my usual habit of seeing a band live but not really getting into them until after I've seen them, which is always pretty annoying. Somehow I definately don't think that will be the case this time. I think it's wonderful seeing a smaller UK band being able to tour with a band from the other side of the world, all working together to promote eachother and create a network of fans all over the globe.
The first song I heard by Acres was 'In Sickness & Health' (highly recommend giving it a listen) and it really struck a chord inside me, I couldn't stop listening to it. From the emotive lyrics, insanely elegant guitar melodies and the contrast between harsh and clean vocals, Acres certainly seem to have found a balance and a sound that suits them down to the ground, and as proved with the release of their new single 'Gloom' it seems asthough this is only going to keep improving. The song starts off with an extremely fierce verse with barely any introduction or build up, but yet the song is still so full of raw emotion and you can really tell how passionate the band are, and how much hard work they have put into creating this. The way that Acres manage to transition between the 'all guns blazing' attitude through to the cleaner chorus and bridges is nothing short of stunning, and I really can't wait to see what they have lined up for us in the coming months.
Acres will release their new EP 'In Sickness & Health' on February 24th, and I know I'll definately be keeping my eyes and ears open. I feel that this really is only the beginning of a huge journey for them, and one that I hope to in some way go on with them whether it be buying tickets to shows or buying their music, they have my full support.
