Formed in 2009, Cheltenham post-hardcore 5 piece Crooks are a band that have grown so quickly on me, I find it hard to listen to a playlist which does not contain at least one song by the boys. On March 2nd 2012 they released their first EP 'Nevermore' which was recorded and produced by the band themselves, followed by a two track EP named 'Still' in 2014. It was in April 2015 that all of their blood, sweat and tears seemed to have paid off as they signed to Equal Vision Records and then followed on to release their debut album 'Are We All The Same Distance Apart'. Since the release of this album Crooks have played numerous shows and festivals around Europe and found themselves sharing the stage with highly acclaimed names like Moose Blood, Neck Deep and Boston Manor.

With the release of 'Are We All The Same Distance Apart' Crooks are giving us an extremely heart wrenching album. Each song on the album contains absolutely stunning vocals- Josh's vocals are pretty much breathtaking and how he manages to reach some of those pitches I will never know. May Be is one song that stands out for me in particular; it really pulls on the heart strings and makes sure that you're not completely dead inside. The contrast of the piano is almost soothing compared to the rest of the album, giving you a moment to reflect and really take in what you are listening to. The first song I ever heard from Crooks was 'A Few Peaceful Days' and I remember instantly being fascinated by just how well they manage to transition from fast paced drum beats and harsher vocals to the melodic bridges with heavenly choruses. As hard as it is to choose a favourite, another song that I always find myself going back to is Dear Reader as I think it really shows off all aspects of the band and what they are capable of.

I knew straight away that Crooks were a band that were going to be around for a while, and with new single '.NEVAREHT' (highly recommend giving it a listen) being released in October last year I'm sure that there is a whole new album just around the corner. I honestly can't wait to see what they bring to the table next, I'm truly amazed by this band and this album really does hold a special place in my heart. Crooks deserve all the success in the world.
